Flying isn’t always a pleasant experience, and everyone has their own ways of making it more comfortable. One woman knew exactly what she needed for her trip, but not everyone around her felt the same.
As she prepared to fly across the country for Christmas with her family, she made sure to book an extra seat to ensure her comfort. Everything was going smoothly until she settled into her seat. That’s when things took a turn. A woman with an 18-month-old child sat next to her and immediately requested that the woman squeeze into one seat so her toddler could have the other. But since the woman had paid for both seats, she politely refused.
The tension caught the attention of a flight attendant, who approached to help. After hearing both sides, the attendant suggested that the mother hold her child on her lap, which is standard for that age. However, the mother continued to throw dirty looks and make passive-aggressive comments throughout the flight.
Afterward, the woman wondered if she had been unfair and took to Reddit to ask for opinions. One mother shared her experience, saying she had endured long flights holding her child, but it was her responsibility. Another commenter argued that the mother was wrong for not buying a seat for her child and trying to make someone else give up their paid seat.

Some commenters emphasized that being larger isn’t a moral failing and that the mother should have purchased a seat for her kid. Others suggested that if the mother truly wanted comfort for her child, she should have planned accordingly.
