Ethan Modboy Bramble, a prominent figure in Australia’s blogging and body modification scene, is impossible to miss on the street. With a split tongue, cropped ears, blacked-out eyes, stretched nostrils, a sewn-in navel, and 95% of his body covered in tattoos, he captures the attention of even the most indifferent passerby.
Bramble believes his decision to alter his appearance is no different from someone dyeing their hair or putting on makeup. “It’s the way you want to look, and I’ve always believed you shouldn’t judge people by how they look,” he explained.
He emphasizes that the outcome is worth the pain, provided you’re fully committed. However, the most terrifying modification he’s undergone was having his eyeballs tattooed. He vividly remembers the experience, particularly the moment the syringe approached his eye.
“You have someone holding your eyelids open, and you have to keep staring at a fixed spot on the wall. It’s extremely stressful because if your eye moves while the syringe is in there, you could go blind. That was definitely one of the sketchiest procedures I’ve had.”
Despite his extreme appearance, Bramble, now a father, is exploring tattoo removal. Every time he goes through the process, more light spots appear on his skin. He looks forward to the day when his daughter is older, so he can show her just how different he used to look.
